I’ve been asked to sit in with the No Mersey band at NYC’s Red Lion on Thursday, the 4th of June at 10pm. I’m filling in for the regular bassist, who is unavailable for this date. It’s a one hour set of Beatles music and it should be fun. I played with these guys last June in Montauk and it was fantastic.

See you there.

Update: great gig. Pic below.

Crossroads

Yes, it’s been done a million times but this is worth a listen because of Ed’s dead-on Clapton solos. This was at The Bitter End in NYC from 10/08.

Ed Howe - guitar
George Ennis - vocals
Keith Foley - drums
yours truly - bass

New recordings posted

Here are some recent recordings that I’ve done for Keith Foley’s latest CD project. These are rough mixes only, but they’re definitely good enough to post. I use a different bass on these two cuts, but both are limited edition G&L basses that were offered by BadAssBassPlayers.com in collaboration with Guitar Man of NYC. They’re 2 of the best basses I’ve ever owned.

The first cut is cover of a terrific R&B tune called Can I Change My Mind. I’m playing my G&L LE L2000, Keith is on drums, George Ennis is doing vocals, and Maury Moskowitz is playing rhythm and lead guitars, The piccolo bass lead is played by JP Bowersock.

The second cut is a 4/4 version of Whipping Post. I used the LE L2000. Other than the leads and the vocals, this was a live take done at about 2 in the morning after a very long day of travel (to Woodstock, NY) and recording and, just maybe, a little beer and wine. As a rough mix, it’s missing the solo’s in the middle section, but the groove is so good that it’s still worth a listen.

The third cut is a cover of Susan Tedeschi’s It Hurts So Bad. This is basically the Jenny Amlen band (Jenny, myself, Keith, and Ed Howe) with our friend Maury Moskowitz on 2nd guitar. For this track, I used a G&L special edition L1000. The L1000’s were known for a thick, rich sound and this track is a perfect example of that.

From the video archives

This was a one-time gig we did on my birthday in December of 2000 at The Bitter End; with Keith Foley on drums, Christine LaFroscia on vocals, and Richard Huddleston on guitar.

This is transferred from an old VHS tape, hence the poor quality. Note that the stop-action nonsense that begins around 3:40 is not your computer stuttering; it was some annoying junk added by the videographer.

I’ve been asked to sit in with the No Mersey band for a gig in Montauk on Saturday, June 7th (8pm to midnight). The regular bassist couldn’t do it, so I got the call. It should be great fun.

The venue is Nicks of Montauk. I’ve never been there but I hear it’s a fun place and has a beautiful ocean view.

See you there.

This gig went quite well. This is the encore.

Love Me Like a Man

Keith Foley’s CD Project II is complete. I had the pleasure of playing bass on all 14 tracks. This one might be my favorite; it has the terrific Christine LaFroscia on vocals and Gus Fafalios on lead guitar. This is the final mix and mastered version.

I’m using a homebuilt P bass with a Darkstar pickup and muted flats.

Love You Like a Woman, Fight You Like a Man:

From 12/21/07 at The Bitter End in NYC. I’m hidden behind the girls (Suzanne and Caroline).

This is from a Cream set we did back in November of ‘06.

Ed Howe - Guitar/vocals
George Ennis - vocals
Keith Foley - drums
Yours truly - bass
